StorHouse/BW is a comprehensive, near-line, database extension system for less frequently accessed SAP® Business Warehouse (BW) data, a category of information also referred to as aged or near-line data. The system enables SAP BW administrators to manage both active and aged data cost-effectively and efficiently in a decision support environment.

Administered through a user-friendly, SAP-created graphical user interface (GUI), StorHouse/BW supports all StorHouse® storage and relational database management features. It also provides a more cost-effective and better performing SAP BW architecture, including:

• Enhanced SAP BW load and query performance because aged data is offloaded to StorHouse

• Shortened SAP BW backup windows

• Potential for lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over disk-only storage by retaining aged data on less expensive alternative storage media

• Automatic archiving

• Higher data availability, which leads to prompter and more informed decision-making.

StorHouse/BW is an alternative to the Archive Development Kit (ADK) that comes with SAP BW. It targets enterprises that want access to near-line data without performing cumbersome reloads, organizations where deleting aged data is not an option, and installations where the SAP BW historical data repository is too large to manage efficiently. In these cases, implementing StorHouse/BW improves the performance of the entire mySAP BI™ system.

How Does StorHouse Integrate with SAP BW?
StorHouse supports easy integration with SAP BW. It provides direct, row-level access to less frequently accessed SAP BW data on a virtual hierarchy of RAID, disk, and lower-cost near-line storage devices such as MAID and tape with no requirement to first stage data back to disk. The number and mix of devices in the StorHouse-managed virtual hierarchy can be tailored to individual customer requirements. Furthermore, because StorHouse is a non-proprietary solution, data can be transparently migrated from existing devices to new storage technologies as they become available.

StorHouse/BW simplifies SAP BW near-line data access. It provides high-speed File Transfer Protocol (FTP) data load and unload utilities for moving information to and from SAP BW. Information can consist of entire tables, table segments, or data based on selection criteria such as data and time. In addition, because StorHouse is tightly integrated with SAP BW as a fixed content database, users can access the system seamlessly through standard SAP BW query and reporting tools.
