Case Study: Near-Line Storage System Makes Aged BW Data More Easily Accessible - page 3

NLS Installation
In early 2002, work began at Entergy to integrate, install, and test the BW-NLS system. Figure 3 illustrates the Entergy NLS query processing architecture.

The pilot group took the following steps to integrate BW with the NLS system:

1. Install the StorHouse ODBC driver

2. Create a StorHouse ODBC link

3. Install the Oracle Heterogeneous Services Data Dictionary

4. Configure an Oracle Net Service name

5. Configure an Oracle Listener

6. Configure Oracle Generic Connectivity Agents

7. Create and test an Oracle Database Link to StorHouse

8. Receive and apply the SAP API transport from SAP

The most serious glitch in the process was the loss of a day's work due to naming-convention inconsistencies. The process documentation has since been updated to account for this problem. Overall, the pilot went as planned.
