Press ReleaseFileTek, MEDITECH, and the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Successfully Implement MEDITECH's Emergency Department Management System - New System Boosts Efficiency, Enhances Communication, and Reduces Clinical Risk London, England (June 17, 2005) - FileTek UK Limited and the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce that they have successfully migrated from the Footman Walker Accident and Emergency system to the MEDITECH Emergency Department Management (EDM) system at the Trust's busy Emergency Medicine department. John Hutton, a then Minister for Health, was in attendance at the cutover ceremony. He met the development team from MEDITECH, who supported the go-live, and was reportedly very impressed with the smooth transition to the new system and the easy integration of the new software with other applications in the MEDITECH configuration. The ethos of FileTek UK Limited and MEDITECH supports integration of all healthcare information and a single electronic patient record. Both companies are therefore working together with the National Programme/Connecting for Health through the compliancy process to ensure that the MEDITECH system is completely integrated with other national solutions. The MEDITECH system is one of the few currently existing integrated hospital systems on the market to offer a modular approach to all areas of a patient's health experience, ranging from the usual functions of a hospital information support system (HISS) system to integrated Laboratory, Pharmacy, Electronic Prescribing, and Emergency Department modules. All of these modules are implemented at the Countess of Chester as well as financial and accounting sub-systems incorporated into a single integrated database structure. Phil Davies, Director of Information Management and Technology (IM&T) at the Countess of Chester, puts the successful implementation in context: "Emergency Department Management continues our rollout of modules that have pushed us further along the path of centralised patient records with much less reliance on paper." Mr. Davies added, "The total integration with the rest of the hospital process gives us the opportunity to provide efficiency gains to the Trust, improve communication between clinicians and with patients, and reduce clinical risk." Patricia Reilly, the Project Manager for the EDM project at the Countess of Chester, is delighted with the ease of the implementation and is convinced that it is due to the commitment of clinicians to the process from the outset. She commented, "From an electronic patient record (EPR) standpoint, it was essential to fully integrate the accident and emergency (A&E) function into the main hospital system. However, it was the clinical need and commitment to this project - from the beginning of the assessment process through the configuration, migration, and final implementation - that has really paid dividends." Steve Moore, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, added, "The move from the old system to the MEDITECH offering has been a dramatic and exciting development. The change gave us the opportunity to review the whole process of clinical care, and so lead to dramatic improvements in the quality and efficiency of our service by integrating technological solutions into departmental processes."
