Press ReleaseFileTek Announces Development Contract with MERANT to OEM SequeLink into the World’s Most Scalable Database - Addition will Provide Universal Interface to Integrate StorHouse with Most Major Applications Rockville, MD (July 12, 1999) – FileTek, a pioneer in large scale database and data management technology, today announced a written agreement with MERANT (formerly, INTERSOLV and Micro Focus) to develop and maintain an open and flexible middleware platform for accessing and integrating data across FileTek’s StorHouse/RM data management software. Under the terms of the agreement, FileTek will embed MERANT’s DataDirect SequeLink® product to allow seamless universal connectivity to the FileTek StorHouse database. SequeLink will provide access to StorHouse data from multiple application interfaces including ODBC, Java JDBC, and ADO/OLE DB. ODBC and OLE DB are Microsoft-initiated standards, and JDBC is a Sun/JavaSoft-initiated standard. With its integration of SequeLink technology from MERANT, FileTek can ensure that its customers will have the ability to access the highly scalable, row-level accessible, HSM-capable StorHouse/RM database from any application and from any platform. By opening the StorHouse/RM database with any commonly used database driver, FileTek anticipates the system compatibility with other database offerings and market potential for the StorHouse offering will expand dramatically. SequeLink supports applications running on the following platforms: Windows 9x, Windows NT, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Digital UNIX, SGI IRIX, OS/390 and any JVM-enabled platform. "With the addition of SequeLink to our StorHouse offerings, we expect to greatly expand our penetration of installed systems in the telecommunications, retail, and financial services markets and enable breakthrough solutions in additional markets as well," according to FileTek president David Beamer. "Having the state of the art middleware platform for ODBC, JDBC, and OLE DB from MERANT will allow any standards-based Windows or UNIX application to integrate with StorHouse. This will open up our data management solution to almost any company looking for scalability and economically-efficient data management, and do so in a compatible, investment protecting manner," said Beamer. With the SequeLink product, as many as 500 third-party application packages can now connect to StorHouse/RM. MERANT’s strategic partnerships with Microsoft and Java Software will allow the StorHouse/RM connectivity devices to be tested and current, fully supporting the complete and latest versions of the ODBC and JDBC specifications. Other software vendors who currently OEM the MERANT database connectivity products include Oracle, Informix, Sybase, Computer Associates, Powersoft and Manugistics. "We are excited to have FileTek join more than 500 partners worldwide who rely on MERANT DataDirect for market leading data access and integration solutions," said Edward Peters, MERANT senior vice president and general manager of DataDirect. "The inclusion of DataDirect technology into FileTek’s StorHouse/RM data management software provides customers with the most reliable solution for accessing their StorHouse data across multiple applications and platforms. With DataDirect SequeLink technology, FileTek is able to focus on developing high-quality data storage and access management solutions while relying on MERANT DataDirect to handle the existing and future connectivity needs of their customers."
